The Hindu Business Line — December 17, 2007

Tata Chemicals on Monday said as part of its de-bottle necking exercise the company will increase its urea production capacity to 1.2 million tonnes per annum by September 2008.

The company presently produces 0.875 million tonnes of urea per annum.

"As part of our de-bottle necking exercise we are looking at taking our urea production capacity to 1.2 million tonnes per annum by September next year," Mr Homi R Khusrokhan, Managing Director, Tata Chemicals said on the sidelines of a CII summit here.

He said the company would also increase its soda-ash production capacity to 1.2 million tonnes per annum from the present 0.864 million tonnes per annum in the next two years.

The company expects its soda-ash plant in Kenya to operate on full capacity by May-June next year.

"Presently we are utilising 60 per cent of our installed capacity in Kenya and we expect to have full stream operation by May-June next year," Mr Khusrokhan said.

The company might look at expanding capacity of its Kenya plant further by 15-20 per cent post June next year, he added.
