Tata Chem to hike urea production capacity

Tata Chemicals on Monday said
as part of its de-bottle necking exercise the company
will increase its urea production capacity to 1.2 million
tonnes per annum by September 2008.
The company presently produces 0.875 million tonnes
of urea per annum.
"As part of our de-bottle necking exercise we
are looking at taking our urea production capacity to
1.2 million tonnes per annum by September next year,"
Mr Homi R Khusrokhan, Managing Director, Tata Chemicals
said on the sidelines of a CII summit here.
He said the company would also increase its soda-ash
production capacity to 1.2 million tonnes per annum
from the present 0.864 million tonnes per annum in the
next two years.
The company expects its soda-ash plant in Kenya to
operate on full capacity by May-June next year.
"Presently we are utilising 60 per cent of our
installed capacity in Kenya and we expect to have full
stream operation by May-June next year," Mr Khusrokhan
said.
The company might look at expanding capacity of its
Kenya plant further by 15-20 per cent post June next
year, he added.
