The
Rs 1,470 crore Tata Chemicals, in a new human
resource (HR) initiative, will move its employees
from one plant to another in an effort to induct
transfer of learning methodology.
This
programme is a part of the extension motive that
the company plans to introduce into the system.
The motive is primarily to enable knowledge sharing
with team members.
B
Sudhakar, head, corporate HR and administration,
Tata Chemicals, said: "We are at the crossroads
of change. We will soon be coming out with a whole
lot of initiatives linked to achievement, with
special focus on transfer of learning. This programme
will be an inter-factory exercise in Tata Chemicals’
plants across the country." As a part of
the ‘transfer of learning’ practice, the company
plans to rotate its officials at various positions
and levels of efficiency, working in the company’s
plants.
Citing
an example, Sudhakar said that company could move
a personnel from its Babrala plant to the Mithapur
plant and so on. "We would want to be a benchmark
in the chemical industry," he added. While
the company has already moved 30-odd people till
now in its factories, a significant number of
people are expected to move this year. According
to sources, it could be close to 100.
"Movement
is largely going to take place at the managerial
and supervisory levels because that is where there
is scope for transfer of knowledge," Sudhakar
said.
This,
according to the company, will also help in the
creation of each top level worker to have skill
sets in more than one area.
