Mr Tata inaugurates India's first Polycrystalline Solar Cells facility

On the occasion of the 10th Anniversary of Tata BP Solar India Limited, Mr. Ratan Tata, Chairman of the Tata Group of Companies, inaugurated India’s most modern polycrystalline solar cell manufacturing facility at the Company’s plant located in Electronics City, Bangalore. 

Tata BP Solar also announced the launch of several new products which include Solar Powered Accident/Trauma Care Centre, Internet Kiosks and premium quality Solar Domestic Water Heating Systems. 

The 10th Anniversary of the Company was marked by a function at its world class manufacturing facilities at Electronics City, Bangalore. Dignitaries included Mr. Harry Shimp, President and CEO, BP Solar USA; Mr. Syamal Gupta, Chairman, Tata BP Solar; Dr. Atul Arya, Chief Operating Officer, BP Solar and Mr. Joseph Hudgins, Vice President (Crystalline Operations), BP Solar.  

Tata BP Solar, India’s market leader in Solar Energy products has posted sales of nearly Rs. 1600 million for 2000-2001 which included exports of over Rs.800 million mainly to developed countries and sales of solar water heating systems of over Rs.110 million.

The ISO 9001 and ISO 14001 certified Tata BP Solar is a joint venture of the House of Tata and BP Solar, the largest solar company in the world, with manufacturing plants in USA, Spain and Australia apart from India. BP Solar boasts of technological leadership in monocrystalline, polycrystalline and silicon thin film technologies as well as cadmium telluride technology.

Tata BP Solar has innovated, developed and marketed a wide range of products and systems covering lighting, water pumping, telecommunication, railway signaling and navigational aids. More than 30 offshore ONGC oil platforms in the Arabian Sea are today using Tata BP Solar supplied solar electric systems for radio, telemetry and gas detection. Several oil pipelines of Indian Oil Corporation employ Tata BP Solar systems for corrosion protection. It has supplied over 400,000 solar energy systems to all parts of India.
