Springs wins General Motors (India) order for suspension
systems

General
Motors India (GMI) has awarded all suspension
systems orders (with the exception of 'leaf springs',
which are not made by TC Springs at present) for
their next model, I-163, (from the Isuzu stable)
to TC Springs.
TC Springs will supply the 'strut rod' assemblies,
the 'stabiliser' assembly, the 'torsion bar front
suspension' assemblies and the 'height control
arms' for front suspension to GMI. This is the
first order for systems / assembly supply booked
by TC Springs, and it marks the beginning of the
next phase for TC Springs, which is developing
system integration capabilities.
This is also the first-ever order for an Isuzu
model for any company in the Chuo Springs Company
network. Isuzu is the only Japanese carmaker not
buying springs from Chuo Springs Company Limited.
TC Springs Limited
is a joint venture between Tata Autocomp Systems
Limited (TACO) and Chuo Springs Company Limited
(CHKK) of Japan. TC Springs started production
in February 2000 and today manufactures suspension
coil springs, torsion bars, stabilizer bars, tension
rods and strut bars.
Its
prominent customers are Tata Engineering, Toyota
Kirloskar, Fiat India, Mahindra & Mahindra,
Eicher, Honda and GM India. The prominent vehicles
supplied to include Indica, Sumo, Safari, Qualis,
Palio, Corsa, Activa, Bolero, Scorpio, Maxx and
Armada.
TC Springs is targeting a turnover of Rs 18 crores
in the current year.
TACO, a technology and engineering company in
the auto-component industry, has a total of 12
joint venture companies and three strategic business
units dedicated to the design, development and
production of components and systems required
for the global automotive industry.
The group employees about 3,100 people and has
recorded a turnover of about Rs 620 crores in
the year ending March 2002. Through its Indian
and global operations, TACO seeks to serve global
vehicle manufacturers, global component manufacturers
and the end users of automobiles.
