Tata Motors plans assembly units in Africa
The Hindu — April 10, 2008

Tata Motors is planning to expand its business in Africa by setting up assembly facilities in various nations, mainly for its commercial vehicles, besides exploring possibilities of introducing its much-talked-about Rs1-lakh car ‘Nano’.

Talking to reporters on the sidelines of the India-Africa Forum Summit here on Wednesday, Tata Motors Managing Director, Ravi Kant, said like other nations, they were planning to start ‘semi-knocked down’ (SKD) operations for its pick-up trucks in Senegal and for buses in Congo, where it had already supplied 228 buses for urban transportation.

The company is also looking at the possibility of commencing ‘completely knocked down’ (CKD) operations in Kenya, while investments are being made to upgrade after-sales and service facilities in Ghana.

“Feasibility studies for these projects in Africa are being undertaken," he added.
