New Delhi, Kolkata: Vistara, a joint venture of Tata group and Singapore Airlines and India’s finest full-service carrier, today announced an additional daily flight between Delhi and Kolkata during the festive seasons, effective today, September 5, 2017. This additional flight, the third daily flight between the two cities, will operate until October 28, 2017. Vistara will also serve authentic flavours of Bengal on its flights from Kolkata throughout September to celebrate the joys of the festival with its customers.
Vistara customers flying out of Kolkata will experience the joyous festive vibe at 35,000 feet above the ground with mouth-watering meals in all travel classes — Business, Premium Economy and Economy. The festive menu on board Vistara includes dishes such as Chicken Kabiraji (fried chicken coated with a mixture of egg and breadcrumbs), Kosha Aloo Dum (whole baby potatoes mingling in an enticing tomato gravy cooked on slow fire), Kasha Mangsho (Mutton tender simmered on slow fire with fried onions, yoghurt, cinnamon, green cardamom and bay leaves), Kasha Chicken (chicken simmered on slow fire with fried onions, yoghurt and a mix of spices), Kolkata Style Chicken Egg Roll, Chholar Daal (Bengal gram lentils spiced and cooked with spices, tempered with ghee and a bit of coconut), Maacher Paturi (fish fillet in a spicy mustard paste steamed in banana leaves), Jheenge Aloo Posto (ridge gourd and diced potatoes in a paste of poppy seeds and fresh spices) and Ghee Bhaat (steamed rice mixed with clarified butter), among other home-style cooked Bengali dishes.
The in-flight menu also features the quintessentially Bengali sweets or desserts, typically relished around Durga Puja, such as Darbesh (a classic Bengali sweet made up of tiny balls of khoya and a batter of syrup and flour, flavoured with several other sweet ingredients) and Chanar Payesh (a sweet milk pudding made of cottage cheese and flavoured with pistachio and saffron).
Sanjiv Kapoor, chief strategy and commercial officer, Vistara, said, “Kolkata has played an important role in Vistara’s growth, and the performance of our flights and market acceptance have grown strongly since we started flying to Kolkata last year. We are delighted to add a third daily flight during the festive season between Delhi and Kolkata, giving travellers even more options”.
Mr Kapoor added, “This is the happiest time of the year for every Bengali and for all Kolkatans, and all of us at Vistara are equally excited about Durga Puja. Authentic Bengali cuisine is a connoisseur’s delight, during this festive season. We are pleased to serve our customers a thoughtfully curated Durga Puja special in-flight menu that features their favourite preparations. We want our customers to have a feast on our flights just as they would in their homes during this special festive season. And, of course, at Vistara meals are included in the ticket price”.
