The event was graced by Praveer Sinha, CEO and MD, Tata Power-DDL, who awarded the scholarships to the students in the presence of principals and teachers of the students and various NGO partners. During the event, a total of 1,150 students from 48 Delhi Government Senior Secondary Schools received the scholarships.

Launched in 2007, Tata Power-DDL’s Ujjwal Programme focuses on SC and ST students studying in various Delhi Government schools, whose economic condition is not conducive for sustaining studies. These students are constantly monitored and mentored by the company so that they do not drop out and rather improve on their educational performance. Subsequently, the same set of students are taken through a customised Personality Development Programme covering interpersonal skills, career counselling and competency testing through the company’s partnered expert NGOs. The initiative has by far benefitted more than 5,000 students of classes X-XII and over 1,000 students under professional courses. Few of these students are also engaged by the company in its Supply Chain through campus recruitments. Till date, the Ujjwal Programme has benefitted over 10,000 students through career counselling support.

Addressing the students at the event, Mr Sinha, CEO and MD, Tata Power-DDL, said, “Under our Ujjwal Programme, we focus on four critical areas — education, employment, employability and entrepreneurship. Of these, education is the most critical area and it is our endeavour to help the needy students through scholarships and contribute towards their brighter future. I wish you all the very best in your studies and believe you all will make us proud with your academic achievements.”
