Tata Power Delhi Distribution extends accidental insurance cover to spouses of JJ customers having registered electricity connections
- The scheme presently covers two lakh JJ cluster customers
- Till date Tata Power-DDL has supported over 30 families and disbursed Rs30 lakh
New Delhi: Tata Power Delhi Distribution (Tata Power-DDL) recently handed over a cheque of Rs1 lakh to Mr Gajraj, father of late Mr Ajay, a resident of Lal Bagh JJ cluster who met with an untimely demise due to an accident.

The cheque was presented as part of Tata Power-DDL’s unique scheme that provides free accidental insurance cover of Rs1 lakh to registered consumers of jhuggi jhopri (JJ) colonies under its distribution area. The insurance cover is now also extended to the spouse of the customer having a connection in his or her name.
In previous years too, Tata Power-DDL has been extending this service to the families of deceased consumers. Launched in 2009, the scheme covers over two lakh registered consumers in over 220 JJ clusters of north and northwest Delhi.
Till date, Tata Power-DDL has supported 30 families and disbursed Rs30 lakhs to the families of the deceased in various JJ colonies viz Ambedkar Naagar, Shalimarbagh; Sanjay Colony (2), Badli; Sukhdev Nagar, Basant Dada Patil – Vishvanath Puri; N-86 , Wazirpur; JJ Bawana, K Block, Shalimar Bagh; Jailor Wala Bagh in Keshavpuram (2), Majnu Ka Tila Civil Lines and Metro Vihar, Narela.
In FY17 alone Tata Power-DDL supported eight families and disbursed Rs8 lakh. “We are extremely grateful to Tata Power-DDL for standing with us in this hour of need. With this amount, I will start a small business from home and will take care of our family’s daily needs. ” said Mr Gajraj.
Commenting on the initiative, Praveer Sinha, CEO and MD, Tata Power-DDL said, “The insurance scheme provides a much needed cushion against any unforeseen eventualities to those who have metered connections in JJ clusters. We are confident that the benefits of the free insurance scheme will encourage other JJ cluster residents too. The initiative is in line with our commitment to keep a check on theft of electricity.”
