Tata Literature Live! The Mumbai LitFest announces shortlists for five coveted Book Awards

Mumbai: Tata Literature Live! The Mumbai LitFest today announced the shortlists for five of its ten literary awards. The eighth edition of the festival will be held from November 16 - 19, 2017, at the National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA), Nariman Point (Nov 16 - Nov 19) and simultaneously at the Prithvi Theatre, Juhu (Nov 19 and Nov 20).

Today, the shortlisted nominees were declared for the esteemed Tata Nexon Literature Live! First Book Award for Fiction and Non-Fiction, the Tata Literature Live! Book of the Year Award for Fiction and Non-Fiction and the Tata Capital Literature Live! Business Book of the Year Award. These awards endeavour to recognise and promote literary talent across genres of literature, including distinguished and emerging writers alike. The winners will be announced during the grand Awards Ceremony to be held on November 19, at the National Centre for the Performing Arts (NCPA).

Tata Nexon Literature Live! First Book Award

The Tata Nexon Literature Live! First Book Award recognises new talent in the Indian literary space across the fiction and non-fiction genres.

In the Fiction category, the shortlisted nominees are (in alphabetical order):

The Tata Literature Live! Book of the Year Award has been constituted to recognise noteworthy work in the Indian literary space across the fiction and non-fiction genres.

Tata Capital Literature Live! Business Book of the Year Award

The Tata Capital Literature Live! Business Book of the Year Award recognises the best business writing in the Indian literary space.

Jury for the awards

Each award category is presided over by an eminent jury.

This year, the Fiction categories for the Tata Literature Live! First Book Award and Tata Literature Live! Book of the Year Award were judged by C P Surendran, poet, novelist and journalist; Chandrahas Chaudhury, novelist and Fiction & Poetry Editor at The Caravan; Gargi Gupta, Features Editor, DNA; Mahesh Rao, author and lawyer; and Anil Dharker, author, columnist and the Founder-Director, Literature Live!

The Non-Fiction categories for the aforementioned awards were judged by Ayaz Memon, sports writer, columnist, lawyer and journalist; Carol Andrade, media educator and former editor of The Afternoon Despatch and Courier; Kalpana Sharma, columnist and senior journalist; Manu S Pillai, author and public policy professional; and Anil Dharker, author, columnist and Founder-Director, Literature Live!

The Tata Literature Live! Business Book of the Year Award was judged by Abheek Singhi, Senior Partner and Director, Head Consumer and Retail Practice, Asia at The Boston Consulting Group; Prof. Anil K Gupta, Professor at the Centre for Management in Agriculture, IIM Ahmedabad, and Executive Vice-Chair of National Innovation Foundation; Dr. Mukund Rajan, Chairman, Tata Global Sustainability Council, Chief Ethics Officer, and Head-International Operations, Tata Sons Limited; Nikhil Prasad Ojha, Partner, Bain & Company; and R Gopalakrishnan, CEO, Mindworks.

The Tata Literature Live! Publisher of the Year and the Big Little Book Awards for author and illustrator/artist in Bengali literature will be announced shortly.

Acclaimed Indian playwright, actor, film director, and writer Girish Karnad is being honored with the Tata Literature Live! Lifetime Achievement Award for 2017 and one of India’s best-known poets and short story writers, Keki Nasserwanji Daruwalla, will be honoured as the Tata Literature Live! Poet Laureate for 2017.
