Tata Global Beverages-supported DARE school in Munnar celebrates 25 years of caring for special children
DARE School (Developmental Activities in Rehabilitative Education) recently celebrated its silver jubilee year of providing education and supporting the development of differently-abled children in the Munnar region. The school is part of Srishti Trust, a community development project located in Munnar and supported by Tata Global Beverages. |DARE School recently celebrated its silver jubilee year by organising an international conference on 'Recent trends in special education for young persons with special needs'|
To commemorate the 25th anniversary of DARE, an international conference themed ‘Recent trends in special education for young persons with special needs’ was organised. The conference shared views, experiences and research findings on innovative ways to rehabilitate differently-abled students, educationally and vocationally, thereby enabling them to be independent, self-motivated and valuable members of society. Reputed national and international speakers from Sweden, Israel, Australia, and USA addressed the gathering of over 170 people on February 11 and 12, 2017. Some of the topics discussed included 'child-friendly classes', 'earning a livelihood with dignity', 'inclusive education: retrospection from paternal perspective', 'models of special education and inclusive education: challenges, gaps and possibilities' etc.

Set up in 1991, Srishti comprises of six units - DARE, Nisarga (strawberry unit), Athulya (manufactures handmade paper and paper products), The Deli (confectionery unit), The Garden Project (fruits, vegetables and flowers cultivation) and Aranya Naturals (natural dye and special effects project that includes tie and dye, shibori, batik and block printing).
