Tata Business Support Services (Tata BSS) provided scholarships worth Rs12 lakh to 161 girl students from Telangana Social Welfare Residential School & JR college (TSWREIS) in Medak (100 km from Hyderabad). The bright young girls of standard 9th and 10th were awarded with scholarships to secure their future and pursue their dreams.
The scholarship distribution was the highlight of their annual day celebration, which included several cultural activities, participation of over 100 girls who showcased all they had learned throughout the year in an entertaining programme.
The social welfare officer of Siddipet district, Charan Das, graced the occasion as chief guest and felicitated the girls with scholarships worth Rs5000 for 10th standard & Rs10,000 for 9th standard students.
Tata BSS corporate sustainability head, Anamika Sarma Iyer, who spearheads this initiative, said, “We are proud of how significantly our scholarship programme has expanded this year. Previously, we used to provide scholarships to select few while the other students from low income groups missed out. This year we awarded scholarships to the entire class of 9th and 10th students and couldn’t be happier about the decision after witnessing the joy of the teachers, parents and students alike”.
The company has long been digitally empowering young girl students from Affirmative Action (AA) communities under its CSR initiative by setting up computer labs, smart classes, enrolling qualified teachers, etc. With the scholarship programme, Tata BSS will be enabling them to sustain their interests and continue to be digitally empowered.
