The
Taj checks in at the Pierre
Business Today
June 6, 2005
On June 9, the top
brass from the Indian Hotels will meet up with the cooperative
board that owns the properties that house the luxurious
Pierre hotel in mid-town Manhattan, New York, to ink
the final elements of a $45-million (Rs 198-crore),
30-year lease that will return the Tatas to New York
(they exited the city's Lexington Hotel a few years
ago). If all goes well, from July 1, 2005, the Indian
tri-colour will fly atop the entrance, replacing the
Canadian flag put up by their predecessor, Four Seasons.
"It is a landmark transaction for us," preens
R.K. Krishnakumar, Chairman, Indian Hotels, who spearheaded
the bid.
