A
different hat

When
the Taj Mahal Hotel in Mumbai recently screened
the film, 'The Taj of Apollo Bunder', as a part
of its centenary celebrations, the surprise element
was after the film, when the titles scrolled down.
Senior vice-president (corporate affairs / projects)
Ravi Dubey is wearing a different hat, that of
the executive producer. "I kept this very close
to my heart. Even the sales and marketing team
didn't know," says Dubey, of his involvement.
This is not the first time that Dubey has been
associated with the performing arts.
In fact, he is the founder member of the Theatre
Action Group, and has played Amitabh Bachchan's
best friend in the Hindi film, Silsila. "The film
oozes with class. It can be a subtle marketing
tool too," he adds. Having worked in the Taj for
25 years now, Dubey always wondered what stories
the walls could tell. It was all coincidental.
Initially the script written by Charles Allan
and Sharada Dwivedi was meant for a book, which
will be released end-December. That's when the
idea for the film took birth.
"We were able to capture the soul of the Taj,"
says Dubey. The film is going places now. After
having a screening in the metros, plans are to
screen it overseas. For those who missed it in
Mumbai, there'll be a second screening in October.
May be it will be aired on TV.
