Hotel Company Ltd (IHCL), a Tatas-controlled hospitality
major, which owns the Taj Hotels brand, is on
a roll. The company is all set to take the Taj
flag to a number of international destinations
including China, South Africa, Scychelles, Bali
and Australia.
However,
the company will expand its reach to these destinations
in lines with its ‘asset light’ approach.
It
will spread its wings abroad mainly by entering
into management contracts with local partners.
Addressing
a press conference here to mark the centinery
celebrations of Taj group of hotels, company managing
director Mr Raymond N Bickson said that the company
is planning to take the Taj flag to China soon.
"We have plans to enter the Chinese market
by setting up a hotel in Beijing first and later
in Shanghai. However, we will most probably enter
the Chinese market by acquiring management contract
from Beijing Hotels, a Chinese government enterprise,"
he said. "The Chinese government is adding
50,000 more room capacity in Beijing to meet the
Olympics demand. There are lots of space for us
to manage," he added.
