Tata Power's Maithon Power supports Jharkhand Government's sanitation project in villages of Maithon, Jharkhand

Dhanbad: Tata Power, India’s largest integrated power company, has always been at the forefront in augmenting good health and well-being of communities living in and around its areas of operation. In continuation of this philosophy, Tata Power Community Development Trust (TPCDT) has pledged to support the Jharkhand Government to build 400 individual household toilets, till December 17, 2017. This sanitation project will be funded by the government, whereas Tata Power will undertake campaigns and awareness sessions about hygiene among the villages of Maithon. More than 1,500-2,000 people of surrounding areas will benefit from this visionary social initiative of Maithon Power (MPL) CSR team.

Campaign to spread awareness about hygiene among the villages of Maithon

The objective of this initiative was to provide clean and hygienic sanitation, to put a halt on the practice of open defecation and promote the use of clean toilets. The importance of maintaining hygienic sanitation practices through the use of proper toilets was highlighted through this initiative. Currently, 290 toilet units have been constructed through this project. The sanitation project which was undertaken has benefitted 21 villages of Nirsa block, Dhanbad.

Speaking on the initiative, Purushottam Thakur, CEO, MPL, Tata Power, said, “It is our endeavour to provide a clean and hygienic environment for the surrounding community. While building sanitation units are important, it is equally important to apprise the villagers on how to use the toilets and make them aware about maintaining sanitary hygiene. We hope that through this initiative, we will be able to provide a healthy environment for people living around our project areas that would contribute to their welfare and well-being. TPCDT supports all efforts benefitting towards nation building and will strive to be a supportive partner consistently.”
