World Water Day 2010

 
Jamshedpur Utilities and Services Company (Jusco) is now six years old and in this short time it has created a niche for itself in the infrastructure sector. Being India’s first comprehensive urban infrastructure company in the private sector, Jusco is currently executing many landmark projects across the country. Like every year Jusco organised many events to mark World Water Day at Jamshedpur, Mysore, and Haldia.
 
At Jamshedpur, the event was flagged off by Sanjiv Paul, MD, Jusco, in front of Jamsetji Tata's statue at Jubilee Park. Present during the function were VD Gopal Krishna, working president, Jusco Shramik Union, senior management team from Jusco, union officials and citizens. After the flag-off, the team went around the city and distributed pamphlets, banners, caps, etc on water awareness  and  conservation.
 
At Mysore, the Jusco team participated in the recognition function organised by the Vani Vilas Water Works (VVWW), Mysore City Corporation (MCC). The function was attended by Mr Manivannan, IAS, deputy commissioner and district magistrate, Mysore; Mr Raiykar, KAS, commissioner, MCC; Mr Purushottam, mayor, MCC; Suresh Babu, superintending engineer, JNNURM, MCC; Mr Subbegowda, executive engineer, KUWSDB, JNNURM division; Mr Laxman, convenor, ACICM, and representatives from MCC, VVWW, KUWSDB and Jusco. During the function 14 VVWW employees of different cadre —  valvemen, meter readers, water inspectors and engineers — were honoured by the mayor and the deputy commissioner. On the same occasion, Jusco distributed Puruskar awards to the selected employees, which were handed over by the mayor and the deputy commissioner. Jusco also organised drawing and painting, quiz and slogan writing competitions for the children of Jagadamba School, Mysore and distributed handbills containing useful messages near Mysore Palace,  to mark the occasion.
 
At Haldia, the Jusco team distributed 'water wise' booklets amongst children, organised an awareness  march and a door-to-door campaign  in the town on water conservation and wastage.
