Jamshedpur:
Dr APJ Abdul Kalam, president of India, while visiting
Tata Steel Works in Jamshedpur during the celebrations
commemorating 75 years of industrial harmony in Tata
Steel, declared that this achievement was a very important
milestone not only for Tata Steel, but also for India
and the Indian industry. He congratulated the gathering
and the company on behalf of the entire nation. In his
address, he spoke of the great vision of the founder
of Tata Steel, Jamsetji Nusserwanji Tata, whom he called
the 'leader of the economic freedom movement in India'.
Governor of Jharkhand, Mr Ved Marwah, stated that this
rare and unique occasion being celebrated by the company,
stands as testimony to peace and harmony, in spite of
being situated in a region which does not have a social environment conducive to industrialisation. "Tata
Steel is not only surviving, it is thriving in stiff
market competitiveness and is an EVA positive company.
This would not be possible without productive labour
and the partnership between the management and the labour."
The governor of West Bengal, Viren Shah, held that the industrial
peace attained by the company is a great achievement. He wished that this achievement would be carried on
till it achieves a hundred years, and stands testimony
to the world.
The chief minister of Jharkhand, Arjun Munda, while congratulating
Tata Steel and feeling fortunate that this was achieved
on Jharkhand soil, stressed that Tata Steel and Jharkhand
were "partners in progress".
RBB Singh, president, Tata Workers Union, expressed
his pride and satisfaction at this great achievement,
and gave the assurance of continued sustenance and development
of the mutual cooperation, coordination and understanding
between the union and the management.
While addressing the workers of Tata Steel, President
Kalam recommended that they should personally visit
neighbouring villages and provide them with physical,
electronic and knowledge connectivity to convert the
entire region into a hub of economic progress and prosperity.
This is along the lines of the work being done by the
numerous social services divisions of Tata Steel, such
as the Tata Steel Rural Development Society, the Tata
Steel Family Initiatives Foundation, Tata Steel's Community
Development and Social Welfare Department and Tribal
Cultural Society.
The superior quality of human resources of the company
is the foundation of the company's leadership. It is
the agile and enthusiastic workers that have built the
foundation of the company and have led it to the pinnacle,
it has reached today. Realising the value of this resource,
Tata Steel is committed to upholding this core
competence and providing ample opportunities of growth
and development to its workforce on the technical, professional
and personal fronts.
The completion of 75 glorious years of industrial harmony
at Tata Steel is arguably another first on the industrial
landscape of Indian commerce and industry. This was
a celebration of commitment, trust, transparency and
understanding, which stands as a tribute to all those who
have helped to build this wonderful monument, a reinstatement
of the beliefs that the company has cherished and a
declaration to uphold them in the future.
