- Multi-year contract includes application services across Telenor Norway’s OSS, fixed, mobile, datawarehouse and accounting system areas
- TCS will modernise Telenor’s IT stack, enabling innovative services and quicker go-to-market
Oslo, Norway and Mumbai, India: Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) (BSE: TCS.BO, NSE: TCS.NS), a leading IT services, business solutions and outsourcing firm today announced that it has signed a multi-year outsourcing contract with Telenor Norway. The contract comprises application maintenance and development services and will involve a modernisation of Telenor’s Norway’s application portfolio across its OSS, fixed, mobile, datawarehouse and accounting system domains.
Through this new second-generation outsourcing initiative, Telenor Norway will improve its operational efficiency, refresh its IT stack and will become more agile to respond to its customers changing needs. "By implementing this measure we are making the necessary adaptations to provide our customers with improved and more innovative services in relation to capacity, speed and stability, as well as better quality in both voice and data, and to facilitate current demands for accessibility," said Ragnar Kårhus, CEO, Telenor Norway.
The contract reinforces TCS’ leadership position in the Nordic market. Recently, TCS had been ranked as the number one service provider in the Nordic region by an EquaTerra survey in which leading CIOs and CXOs in the Nordic region had rated the company ahead of all other providers in terms of customer satisfaction, quality, flexibility, risk and innovation.
“This contract underscores TCS' ability to help global corporations optimise their run-the-business cost and channelise those savings to undertake modernisation projects that are delivered with reduced risk and increased certainty,” said AS Lakshminarayanan, vice president and head, Tata Consultancy Services, Europe. He added: “Our selection by Telenor to drive this modernisation demonstrates the headway we have been making in the Nordic market and highlights our strong telecom domain expertise.” The telecom business unit is the second-largest vertical for TCS, comprising over 12,000 employees working for 160+ telecom clients worldwide.
This modernisation project by Telenor is being recognised as a landmark leadership move. “This contract marks an important milestone for the IT industry in Norway and signifies the acceptance of global service delivery in Norway. We expect this deal to serve as a catalyst for other Norwegian organisations who are currently evaluating the use of global service delivery. TCS’ investment in the Norwegian market appears to have positioned it well to capitalise on these opportunities and TPI believes this contract could well represent a shift in how Norwegian companies will approach IT,” said Tom Olsen, head, TPI Norway.
