On Friday, February 14, 2003, Tata Steel received the Golden Peacock Award for 2002 for outstanding achievements, namely Excellence in Corporate Governance, and Corporate Social Responsibility, in the private sector category. The awards were presented by Justice AM Ahmadi (former chief justice of India) and chairman of the jury. These awards are given annually by the Institute of Directors, a non-profit, apex association of company directors, which works for improving the competitiveness of Indian business.
