Naraj Marthapur, Orissa: Tata Power, India’s largest integrated power utility, has set up a career development centre in Orissa with the vision of educating the local youth of Naraj Marthapur village and to help them find employment. This one-of-its-kind career development centre has been established in association with Rotary Club, Cuttack. The land and the building have been provided by the Rotary Club; whereas, Tata Power is providing other infrastructural support and management of the centre. One hundred and fifty candidates have already enrolled their names in this centre. The candidates have educational backgrounds varying from Class 10 to postgraduation. After completion of a counselling programme through one-on-one interaction, a logical framework is developed for these candidates in order to provide employment opportunities in various sectors. P Thakur, general manager, Orissa projects, said, “It is good to see how local youth are finding a firm soil under their feet through the career development centre. Through this programme, Tata Power hopes to provide support to the local people to carve a better future for them.” Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has also joined hands with Tata Power in this noble cause. Ninety-five candidates who are graduates have been given employability training in two different batches. The training comprised courses on soft skills, business communication, business etiquette, and computer knowledge. After completion of the training, TCS representatives from Kolkata visited Naraj Marthapur in two sessions and conducted written examination and subsequent interviews. Out of the total 95 candidates, 22 have been selected for jobs at TCS Kolkata with attractive salary packages along with benefits such as EPF, ESI, medical, gratuity, etc as per the company’s rules and norms. |
