Tata Petrodyne (TPL), incorporated in 1993, is engaged in the exploration and production of crude oil and natural gas. Originally promoted by Tata Industries with the objective of spearheading the Tatas’ foray into the upstream sector of the oil and gas industry, TPL is today a 100-per cent subsidiary of Tata Sons.

In March 2007, TPL acquired a 25-per cent participating interest in a gas-bearing block in the North Sea (48 1b/2c), its first international venture. Recently, block 48/1d was awarded in the 25th Licensing Round as a traditional license. This block is adjacent to 48 1b/2c.

In March 2009, the company gained operator status after being granted an exploration permit for offshore block AC/P46 in Australia, where it has 100-per cent participating interest.
