Nano Superdrive: A journey through India

The Nano Superdrive, flagged off at Sanand in Gujarat on June 2, 2010, coincided with the first anniversary of the people’s car and the inauguration of  Tata Motors’ new plant at Sanand

On June 2, 2010, nine small wonders set out to traverse the length and breadth of India, making their way across plains and hills, and deserts and lush valleys; wading their way through crowded cityscapes, vibrant bazaars and colourful towns; zipping along winding rivers and vast coastlines; passing by modern towers and historical monuments. Thousands of kilometres. Three routes. Three Nanos on each route. Twenty-six days of fun and adventure.

The Nano Superdrive, flagged off at Sanand in Gujarat, was a celebration all along. Coinciding with the first anniversary of the people’s car and the inauguration of  Tata Motors’ new plant at Sanand — which will enable more people to become proud Nano owners — the Superdrive saw customers and media persons driving the Nano through diverse terrains and in extreme weather conditions, a gruelling test for robustness, durability and reliability for any car. And the Nano passed the test with flying colours.

Fittingly, the three routes were named after the colours of the Indian tricolour — the saffron route was about 4,098km long and covered a large part of North India; the white route covering about 5,888km in east India; and the green route mapped the south of India, covering about 4,829km.
