Ravi Kant is the vice chairman of Tata Motors, where he earlier served as managing director, and the chairman of TAL Manufacturing Solutions, Telco Construction Equipment and Tata Advanced Materials.
He is on the boards of Voltas, Tata Motors European Technical Centre (UK), Tata Industries and Jaguar Land Rover. He is also chairman of the Indian Institute of Management, Rohtak.
Mr Kant is on the governing boards of the National Institute of Design and the Vale Columbia Centre on Sustainable International Investment. He has also been the president of the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers and chairman of the Audit Bureau of Circulations, National Readership Studies Council and the Advertising Standards Council of India.
He is a member of the governing board of Smile Train – an international cleft lip/palate charity organisation – and is on the board of Surgery for the Poor, another international charity organisation.
Prior to joining Tata Motors in 1999, Mr Kant was director, Philips India, looking after consumer electronics. He also worked with LML, Titan Watches, and other consumer and metal companies in senior positions.
Mr Kant graduated from Mayo College, Ajmer, and earned a bachelor’s degree from the Indian Institute of Technology, Kharagpur. He went on to complete a master’s degree in management (industry) at Aston University, Birmingham, which conferred on him an honorary doctor of science degree in 2008. Mr Kant is also an honorary industrial professor at the University of Warwick, UK.
