Lock out at Telco's Lucknow unit lifted

The five-month-old lockout in the Lucknow unit of heavy automobiles giant Tata Engineering and Locomotive Company (TELCO) has been lifted following an agreement between the management and employees. The lockout was declared following large-scale violence and arson by a section of the employees who went on a rampage in the factory premises on March 29. The employees were angered over the management's refusal to accept their demand for an across the board Rs 4,000 monthly hike in wages. The management was offering them a raise of Rs 2,000. "The Telco Workers Union has agreed to accept our offer following which we have taken a decision to lift the lockout and open the factory from Monday," TELCO's Lucknow unit chief CV Singh said.
