Tayo Rolls inaugurates its integrated forging plant

Tayo Rolls, a subsidiary of Tata Steel, and a leading  cast iron and steel roll manufacturer, has put up a state-of-the art integrated forging facilities for manufacturing forged rolls and engineering forgings.
The facilities were inaugurated by HM Nerurkar, managing director, Tata Steel, on January 7, 2010, at a function held in the Tayo Works. With the inauguration, Tayo now has the unique distinction of being the only company in the world which manufactures both cast and forged rolls at a single location through a totally integrated facility from blast furnace to finish rolls. Apart from producing forged rolls, the new facilities would also enable the company to manufacture engineering forgings to cater to the requirements of the oil and gas, power, wind mill, sugar, cement and steel sectors.
The integrated forging facility comprises Arc Furnace, Ladle Furnace and Vaccum Degassing unit for manufacturing forging quality ingots, including round ingots; a modern forge shop with 2,500 tonnes open die forging press along with other auxiliaries to manufacture engineering forgings and forged roll blanks; a state-of-the-art induction hardening facility, core requirement for forged rolls along with other facilities like cryogenic treatment, heat treatment and machining facility to manufacture forged rolls. The total outlay for the project is Rs68 crore which has been funded through equity and term loans. This is the first time that Tayo, in its existence of over four decades, has undertaken such an investment which would benefit all its stakeholders.
The technology for the manufacturing of forging quality ingots, including round ingots, forged bars, engineering forgings and forged rolls, is being provided by M/s Sheffield Forgemasters International (SFIL), UK, a world-renowned forged roll and engineering forging manufacturer.
Anand Sen, chairman, Tayo Rolls; Pradeep Srivastava, managing director, Tayo Rolls and Rakeshwar Pandey, president, Tayo Workers Union, addressed the gathering and wished the new endeavour a grand success. Senior executives from Tata Steel, other Tata companies, Essar Steel  and Tayo’s executives and workers were also present on the occasion.
