APJ Abdul Kalam, the President of India, was th guest of honour when the Tata group launched its 'Century of Trust' initiative on July 23, 2004, at the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) in Bengaluru. The initiative showcased the group's achievements and values, and the role it has played in enriching the country over the past hundred years and more.
Century of Trust was the theme that decorated what is a special year for the Tata group, given that 2004 marked the death centennial of Jamsetji Tata, the founder of the group, and the birth centennials of two other Tata stalwarts, JRD Tata and Naval Tata. The IISc function saw the president inaugurate the Century of Trust exhibition, which narrates the story of the Tata group in the context of key moments from Indian history over the past 120 years. This was followed by the release of RM Lala's For the Love of India, a book on the life and times of Jamsetji Tata.
