Tata
Motors, India's largest automobile company, manufactures
two kinds of multi-utility vehicles: the well-appointed
Tata Safari and practical Tata Sumo.
Tata
Safari: This vehicle makes driving a pleasure even
on the roughest terrain. Among its features are a four-inline,
turbo-charged, inter-cooled diesel engine; energy-absorbing
front and rear bumpers; and a soft-touch, four-spoke
steering wheel. The electrical shift-on-the-fly means
that you can slip into four-wheel drive mode at the
flick of a switch.
The Tata Safari's
comfort features include dual air-conditioner; heater and 'demister'; central
locking (with child-safety locks); collapsible steering column that can be tilted;
60:40 split-folding seats; rear reading lamps and courtesy lights. Its rear windscreen
wiper and washer help all-weather driving.
The Safari is available in three
models: the EXi, the 4x4 EX and the 4x4 LX.
Tata Sumo:
A robust vehicle built for every conceivable road
and climatic condition, the Sumo is perfectly suited
for big families. It comes with various options (AC,
power steering, central locking, etc) to suit different
needs. Features include anti-roll bars at both the front
and rear end (for added stability), and a five-speed,
'syncromesh' gearbox with overdrive. The 90-bhp turbo-charged
option makes it the most powerful multi-utility vehicle
in its class.
There are five variants
of the Sumo: the Victa, the SE+, the SE 4x4, the Spacio
and the Spacio ST.
