Besides
tea and coffee, Tata Group enterprises are also involved
in the production of food additives and spices.
Tata Chemicals'
food additives business has two of the company's premium product groups under
its wing: branded salt and sodium bicarbonate.
Branded
salt: The company manufactures four varieties of
salt: iodised salt, crystalline salt, vacuum salt and
pure salt. With a 36-per cent market share in the branded
salt segment in India and reaching some 35 million households,
Tata Salt is the No 1 food brand among India's most
trusted brands. India's most preferred salt is one of
the purest available in the country. Moreover, Tata
Salt contains the right amount of iodine, vital for
physical and mental growth and development.
Apart from Tata Salt, Tata Chemicals
produces crystalline salt and markets it under the brand
name Samunder Crystal Salt. The company also recently
launched its Topp Salt brand in the Middle East. Vacuum
evaporated, super refined and iodine-enriched, Topp
Salt has been introduced in Dubai, with plans to cover
the entire United Arab Emirates. The company also plans
a rollout in Oman, Kuwait, and Saudi Arabia.
Sodium
bicarbonate: The company produces three varieties
of sodium bicarbonate technical, refined and
granular and markets them in India and the West
Asia. Tata Chemicals also produces Tata Samunder Cooking
Soda, which is sold in small, single-use sachets.

Spices:
Tata Tea is a major grower, manufacturer and exporter
of spices. The Tata Spices Centre, set up in Kochi in
1990, consists of a modern pepper processing facility
for whole black and white pepper. The company also deals
in whole spices like turmeric fingers, chillies, ginger,
cardamom, nutmeg and spice seeds. Tata Coffee, a subsidiary
of Tata Tea, is also involved in the farming of pepper
and cardamom.
Strawberry
preserve: Tata Tea makes and markets strawberry
preserve at a unit that is part of Project Dare, a community
initiative that Tata Tea runs in Munnar in southern
India. The project educates and rehabilitates handicapped
children, who collect and clean the fruit, and make
the preserve. The preserve consists of farm-fresh strawberries
preserved in sugar and lime juice; no artificial preservatives
or colouring agents are used. It is available at select
retail outlets across India.
