Tata
Chemicals manufactures nitrogenous and phosphatic fertilisers,
both crucial to the optimisation of agricultural output.
Manufactured at its two plants at Babrala, in the state
of Uttar Pradesh, and Haldia, in the state of West Bengal,
the company's products are market leaders in their respective
spheres.
Nitrogenous
fertilisers: Tata Chemicals' urea is manufactured
at its plant in Babrala under the 'Shudh' brand name.
The NPK ratio of the company's urea is 4:2:1 (where
nitrogen is present in four parts, phosphorus in two
and potassium in 1). This is considered to be optimum
for food crops, especially rice and wheat. Urea finds
wide application in the growth of plants, and is also
known as the 'leaves-and-foliage fertiliser'. The urea
manufactured by the company is the market leader in
its segment, and accounts for nearly 12 per cent of
the urea produced by India's private sector.

Phosphatic
fertilisers:
Tata Chemicals manufacturers di-ammonium phosphate (DAP),
nitrogen-phosphorus-potassium (NPK) complexes and single
super phosphate (SSP) at its Haldia plant. Also known
as 'fruit-and-flowering fertilisers', these agricultural
inputs are used primarily to aid the growth of fruit
and flowers. TCL markets its phosphatic fertilisers
under the brand 'Paras', which leads the markets of
West Bengal, Bihar and Jharkhand.
