Moya
to play Tata Open in Chennai
The Asian Age — October 16,
2003
Current world number
7 player Carlos Moya is scheduled to participate in
the Tata Open 2004 championships to be held in Chennai
from January 5 to 11. Confirming his presence in the
event, Moya — a former world number one with total career
earnings of above $9 million — said: "This is the third
time that I will be playing here. It's a great tournament
and the Chennai crowd is encouraging, so it's a pleasure
to come back here." Moya nearly won his 15th career
title early this weekend but ultimately narrowly lost
out to top seed Roger Federer in the CA Tennis Trophy
event in Vienna.
The year 2003 saw the Spaniard jump off to an 18-5 match
record in the first three months, winning his 12th career
title in Buenos Aires, reaching the Tennis Masters Series
final in Miami and helping his country to the Davis
Cup semi-final.
