Group Chairman Ratan Tata was conferred with the prestigious Bombay Management Association's (BMA) Entrepreneur Of The Decade Award by governor SM Krishna at a glittering ceremony held at YB Chavan Auditorium in Mumbai.

Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) signed a seven-year agreement with Somerfield, a leading UK-based small-format food retailer to provide completely managed IT services that include entire IT operations, asset management and planning, fully managed IT infrastructure and applications services that meet Somerfield's current and future business demands.

The company also signed a tripartite investment agreement with Microsoft Corporation and its Chinese partners for strategic investment in TCS China. Microsoft will hold a minority stake in TCS China.

It also unveiled its latest Talent Transformation (TCS T2) software aimed at transforming science graduates into global software professionals. It is the first such program undertaken to draw graduates from disciplines other than engineering into the global technology services industry.

TCS was also rated by IDC eighth in market share among US Application Management Services (AMS) vendors. It is the first such offshore vendor to be ranked in the top ten in the US.

Tata Steel won the 'Best Governed Company Award 2006' for setting high standards in governance practices and for the corporate practices that have enabled the company to direct its affairs in an efficient manner that maximise its shareholders' value. The award was presented by the Asian Centre for Corporate Governance. Global Corporate Governance Forum head Phillip Armstrong gave away the award to Tata Steel in Mumbai.

The company also inaugurated a four-month residential technical training programme in electrical jobs and masonry for residents of Seraikela Kharasawan district, at Seraikela, Jharkhand, in order to improve the quality of life of the people who will be displaced by the proposed greenfield projects by making them a part of the Tata Parivar.

Titan Industries featured in the Dun and Bradsheet (D&B) list of India's top 500 companies with a rank of 198. The profiles in the list are pre-eminent companies of corporate India that have emerged as leaders in their respective sectors. Dun and Bradsheet (D&B) is the worldwide industry leader in providing B2B credit, marketing, purchasing and decision-support services. The list was compiled on the basis of three criteria - total income, net profit and net worth.

Titan Time Products (TTPL) won the first-level recognition of "Strong Commitment to Excellence" and was awarded the "CII Exim Bank Award for business excellence" commendation certificate at the inaugural session of the16th National Quality summit held at Bangalore. TTPL, a fully owned subsidiary of Titan Industries, has embarked on its journey of transformation from a single-product, single-customer unit to a multiproduct, multi-customer, globally competitive EMS contract manufacturer.

Tata Steel's Noamundi Iron Ore mine won the first prize for overall performance in the "Highly Mechanised Iron Ore Mines" category, in the 44th Annual Mines Safety Week Celebrations 2006 for Chaibasa region. The event was organised by Directorate General of Mines Safety (DGMS), government of India. Tata Steel won the first prize for overall performance, for the third consecutive year and it also won 20 awards in the group events and 24 awards in the individual events respectively.
