www.nifindia.org/
The Department of Science and Technology and the Government
of India have constituted the National Innovation Foundation
with an aim to recognise and support the creative potential
of innovators at the grassroots and harness their creativity
to help make India self-reliant and a leader in sustainable
technologies. In collaboration with the HoneyBee Network
and the Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, they
have announced the first annual competition for scouting
grassroots technological innovations.
The competition
The NIF solicits entries about innovations attempted
by small and cottage-based industries, farmers, artisans,
fishermen and women, slumdwellers, workshop mechanics,
and local communities in managing natural resources,
biodiversity, developing new farm implements, herbal
pesticides, curing diseases, construction of low cost
environmentally benign houses or any other aspect of
survival in urban and rural areas.
The award
The first three scouts and first three innovators will
be awarded Rs. 50,000, Rs. 25,000 and Rs.10,000 each.
There will be 500 consolation prizes of Rs.1000 each,
for scouts and for innovators, depending upon the number
of entries and incremental inventiveness. The award-winning
entries would also be published in the HoneyBee newsletter,
and included in the Knowledge Network on Sustainable
Technologies and Institutions. The winners of the first
annual national competition will be invited to the HoneyBee
network and innovators meeting at the Indian Institute
of Management, Ahmedabad, in February 2001.
How to participate
Individuals or groups may send as many entries as they
wish on plain paper, giving the genesis of the innovation,
background information on the innovators, accompanied
by photographs and/or videos, if possible, and any other
information that may help in replicating the innovations
by communities or individuals. The last date for the
first contest is November 30, 2000. Entries for the
second annual competition will be accepted all year
round till September 2001.

Mission:
Helping agencies succeed
Innovation
Network, Inc. (InnoNet) is an organisation dedicated
to enabling public and nonprofit organizations
to better plan, execute, and evaluate their structure,
operations, and services. They conduct evaluations,
provide ongoing support to organisations to help
them build the capacity to evaluate their services,
and provide technical assistance at a distance
through this website.
Although
primarily focused on the American market, the
step-by-step exercises (guided along the way by
tips, examples and explanations) on the website
to create a strategic programme map, budget, fund-raising
action plan and evaluation plans could be very
useful to social organisations from any country
wishing to revamp or ensure that venture is indeed
successful.
Besides
this, there is also a "Resource Centre"
which consists of a collection of tips and tools
for improving existing survey, focus group and
interview processes and other data collection
