Syamal Gupta has been with the Tata Group for the last 50 years. He is currently the chairman of Tata International, Tata Elxsi, Tata BP Solar India, TCE Consulting Engineers and a few other Tata companies. He is also on the board of several other Tata companies and has a long and valuable corporate experience in India and abroad.

Mr Gupta is the honorary consul general of Namibia in India. He also serves on the President's advisory council in Tanzania, Uganda and Ghana and is a member of the Commonwealth Business Council, London. He is on the board of the Indian Institute of Management, Kozhikode and the Institute of Commonwealth Studies, London.

Mr Gupta is a professionally qualified mechanical engineer. He is a fellow of the Imperial College of science, technology and medicine, UK, and a foreign member of the Royal Academy of Engineering, UK. He has also completed the Advanced Management Program at Harvard Business School.
