Veeramani
Shankar is the chief executive officer of Rallis India
since June 1, 2007. Shankar joined Rallis India in 2005
as the chief operating officer, and moved on to become
its executive director. He was earlier the chief operating
officer, phosphates business, at Tata Chemicals (TCL).
Shankar began his career in 1979 with Indian Aluminium
Company. In 1986 he joined Hindustan Unilever Limited
(formerly Hindustan Lever Limited), for an 18-year stint
during which he served in various positions including
Unilever corporate audit and business head for agribusiness,
and later for fertilisers, for which he served as a
director in Hind Lever Chemicals. After the merger of
Hind Lever Chemicals with TCL in 2004, he joined the
Tata Group.
Shankar is the ex-chairman, eastern region, Fertiliser
Association of India. Presently, he is on the association
boards of Crop Life India and Crop Care Federation of
India.
Shankar is a qualified chartered accountant (CA), cost
accountant, and company secretary, and also holds a
graduate degree in law. Qualifying with distinctions
at the all-India level in both intermediate and final
CA examinations, Shankar has a varied experience of
over 27 years in the industry.
