Ravi
Kant is the managing director of Tata Motors, India's
largest automobile manufacturing company, where he was
earlier the executive director of the commercial vehicle
unit. He is also the chairman of Tata Daewoo Commercial
Vehicle Company, South Korea, a 100-per cent subsidiary
of Tata Motors, and Hispano Carrocera, Spain, in which
Tata Motors has a 21 per cent stake. He is also the
chairman of Tata Cummins, a joint venture with Cummins,
USA. He is on the boards of Voltas, an air conditioning
engineering company of the Tata Group, TAL Manufacturing
Solutions, a 100-per cent subsidiary of Tata Motors,
and Tata Motors European Technical Centre, UK, also
a 100-per cent subsidiary of Tata Motors.
Ravi Kant has extensive experience
in consumer durables and automobile industries. Before
joining Tata Motors in 1999, he was director, Phillips
India, looking after consumer electronics. He has contributed
significantly in turning around an ailing scooter manufacturer,
and in launching Titan, now India's leading watch brand.
He is a distinguished alumnus
of Mayo College, Ajmer, Indian Institute of Technology,
Kharagpur, and Aston University, Birmingham, UK, from
where he did his masters in management in industry.
Ravi Kant takes keen interest
in marketing and industry-related activities. He is
on the governing board of National Institute of Design,
and is vice president of the Society of Indian Automobile
Manufacturers. He has also been the chairman of the
Audit Bureau of Circulations, National Readership Studies
Council, and the Advertising Standards Council of India.
